How do players earn a ranking?
Players will earn a ranking after participating in one or more league tournaments and weekend tournaments. The different rankings or levels
are: Open, A, BB, B, C, & Novice. Click here for our volleyball ranking definitions.
"Open" is a higher level than "A", but "Open" leagues and
tournaments may include "A" players. In
four-person play, all four players will earn the same ranking. All of the players of the first place team will earn the next level ranking than
the suggested ranking of the tournament. That is, all players on the first place team will earn "BB" status when they win a "B"
tournament or all players on the first place team will earn "A" status when they win a "BB" tournament. All other players on
the teams that win two or more games will earn that tournament ranking. That is, the players on the teams that won two or more will earn
"B" status in a "B" tournament, where as, the players on the teams that only won one game or none will earn "C"
status in a "B" tournament.
THE SAND CLUB SUGGESTION:
Players with a ranking are more likely to be contacted from the free agency list than players unranked. Players unranked are suggested to schedule
an appointment to attend a league for 15 minutes in order to earn a subjective ranking by The Sand Club. The subjective ranking will include a
serving, passing, spiking, and setting analysis.
In order to keep weekend tournaments more competitive, the team's total player points must meet the required ranking points for the tournament.
The different points assigned to the rankings are: Open = 5 points, A = 4 points, BB = 3 points, B = 2 points, C = 1 point. When one or more player
does not have a player ranking before a weekend tournament, The Sand Club will assign a subjective ranking. However, if all four players have a
"B" status, which is 8 total team points, then that team will not qualify to play in a "BB" tournament without The Sand Club
approval, nor would three "A" players and a "BB" player team, which is 15 total team ranking points, qualify for a "BB"
tournament because that team exceeds the required total team ranking points.
In order to keep the leagues more competitive, the team's total player ranking points may not exceed
the required ranking points for the league at no point during the season. That is, three "A" players may not sub in "BB"
league if the other player is a "BB" player.
How do players earn a rating?
All the players will also receive a rating at the end of the league tournaments and weekend tournaments. That is, for an 8 team true "BB"
tournament (every player has a "BB" ranking), the 1st place team will earn 24 player rating points for each player; 2nd place team will
earn 90% of the 1st place points (or 21.6 player rating points); 3rd place will earn 75% of the 1st place points (or 18 player rating
points), 4th place will earn 60% of the 1st place points (14.4 player rating points), 5th & 6th place teams will earn 50% of the 1st
place points (or 12 player rating points), and 7th & 8th place teams will earn 40% of the 1st place points (or 9.6 player rating points).
Four teams will earn "B" status because they will only win one game, 3 teams will earn "BB" status because they will win 2 or
more games, and the winner will earn "A" status. PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS. The Sand Club is structuring
the ratings and rankings similar to California Beach Volleyball Association (one of the most
renown associations in the nation, since 1965). Player rankings and ratings will be subject to change when The Sand Club attracts 30 plus teams on
a regular basis for weekend tournaments.
Special Notes:
The Sand Club wants the players to be aware that a player's ranking will reduce one ranking every 6 months that the player does not play in a league
tournament or weekend tournament. Also, The Sand Club will not tolerate "sand baggers".
